River Forest, Ill. -
The Dominican University Department of Athletics has prided itself on a department that stresses academic success in addition to athletics success. Throughout the 2007 Fall Semester, the department's 11 varsity teams posted an average 3.09 grade point average.
"We expect our student-athletes to work even harder in the classroom than we do on the courts and fields," said Erick Baumann, director of athletics at the university.
That hard work paid off for the Stars in the fall semester with eight of the 11 programs posting grade point averages over a 3.00 with a ninth program missing the 3.00 mark by just 0.03.
"This is an accomplishment that not only our student-athletes but our staff should take great pride in," said Baumann. "Achieving the high-level of academic success we experienced is a testament to how hard we have worked as a department from all of our head coaches down to all of the student-athletes."
