The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has released the 2009-2010 Team Academic Award recipients with Dominican University’s women’s volleyball program as one of 75 honorees at the Division III level. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Stars, who posted a 3.41 cumulative grade point average, are receiving the award for just the second time in program history, having just missed out on the award last year with a 3.22 cumulative grade point average. The last time Dominican University received the prestigious honor was back in 2004 and is one of just nine NCAA Division III institutions all-time to receive the award.
The award caps a milestone-filled season for the Stars, as Dominican garnered the program’s first conference championship, claiming a share of the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) regular season title with a 10-2 mark in NAC play. Dominican’s Christine Paciero was named the NAC’s Co-Coach of the Year while senior libero Megan Moore (Glendale Heights, Ill.) was honored as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.
