The 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Region teams were recently announced with Dominican University’s Sarah Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) garnering a Second Team nod while freshman Corinne Wimmer (Elgin, Ill.) landed on the All-Great Lakes Region Third Team.
 
Budz, making her third appearance on the NFCA All-Region Team, posted a .368 batting average with 18 extra-base hits (14 doubles, 4 home runs) for a .564 slugging percentage.  The Stars’ senior slugger led the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) with 20 walks and made opponents pay for the free passes, stealing 15 bases while only being caught twice.  Budz ranked in the top ten in the NAC in ten statistical categories including runs (32), hits (49), runs batted in (27), slugging percentage, on-base percentage (.452), batting average, doubles and home runs.
 
Wimmer, an All-NAC First Team selection as freshman, ranked second in the NAC with a team-best 61 hits, posting a .394 in her first collegiate season.  The speedy left-hander was 15-for-16 in stolen base attempts and scored 35 runs, fourth-best in the NAC.
 
Budz and Wimmer helped the Stars to the championship round of the 2012 NAC Softball Tournament, posting a 24-21 record on the season and claiming the NAC Tournament’s sixth seed with a 14-10 NAC mark.
