Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stars Win Third Straight

The Dominican University women's basketball (8-7, 4-6) picked up their third straight win, knocking off the MSOE Raiders 65-45 on Saturday evening in the Igini Sports Forum.  The win exacts revenge for the Stars who fell to the Raiders in Dominican's Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) opener back in late November.

"Today's game was won with defense and energy," commented Stars' head coach Gabby Johnson. "It seemed like every time we needed a stop on the defensive end, we got louder and more disciplined. Katie Uzoras looked confident tonight which turned into—what I think—is her best game yet. We win when we get contributions from everyone and that's exactly what we got tonight."

After trailing by as many as eight in the first quarter, the Stars set the tone on the defensive end of the floor in the second quarter, holding the Raiders to just three points on 1-for-15 shooting and forcing seven turnovers.  At the other end of the floor, the Stars put up 26 points, shooting 10-for-17 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from three-point distance.

In the second half, the Stars kept the Raiders at bay, never letting MSOE get any closer than 13 points the rest of the night.

Timiya Ray led the way for the Stars with 16 points in 39 minutes.  The sophomore added eight rebounds, four blocks and a steal in 39 minutes of action.  Uzoras finished with her third double-double on the season, posting 14 points and ten rebounds.  Alexis Hoskins and Stephenee Huggans added nine points apiece while Alisha Markley chipped in eight points, all coming in Dominican's huge second quarter effort.

For the Raiders, Shaylan Reardon scored a game-high 18 points on 8-for-20 shooting while the rest of the Raiders managed to shoot just 10-for-34 in the loss.

Dominican returns to action on Tuesday, hosting the Benedictine University Eagles for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.
