River Forest, IL - The Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) announced the weekly NAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award on Monday night with Dominican University's George Hickey (Chicago, IL) claiming the award for the week ending on Sunday, April 26. Last week, Hickey, a senior right-hander, picked up his first win of the season as he tossed a complete-game shutout in a 12-0 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Thursday. In the win, Hickey scattered three hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out nine. Through five innings, Hickey faced the minimum, allowing two runners to reach first base on hits. The Crusaders' first runner was erased when Hickey picked off Maranatha's Bryan Oliver in the first inning. Then after a leadoff single in the top of the fifth, Hickey induced a 463 double play before closing out the frame with a ground out to Colby Batchelor (Northridge, CA) at shortstop. Hickey is now 1-6 on the season with a 5.87 earned run average. In 38-plus innings of work, Hickey has struck out a team-leading 42 hitters while surrendering just 17 walks. Hickey and the Stars return to the diamond on Wednesday, travelling to Madison, Wis., to take on the Edgewood College Eagles at Edgewood's Stampfl Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. |
