River Forest, IL - MSOE's Deacon Bennett sank a pair of free throws with 10.8 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the MSEO Raiders past the Dominican University Stars 67-66 on Tuesday night. Bennett poured in a game-high 23 points on the night while Dominican missed a pair of jumpers in the waning seconds to fall to 9-15 on the season and 5-11 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC).

The Stars, trailing by 11, 62-51, with just 5:34 remaining in the second half, rattled off 11 straight points, capped by a pair of free throws by senior guard Marvin Jeter (Lynwood, IL) to knot the game at 62-62 with 2:39 to play. Two possessions later, a driving bucket by Jeter gave the Stars just their third lead of the game at 66-64. It was the Stars' first lead since leading 4-2 in the opening minutes. However, the Raiders converted on three of four trips to the foul line in the game's final 45 seconds while the Stars were held scoreless over the game's final 1:34.

Jeter paced the Stars with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. The Stars' 5'9" guard rounded out the night with five rebounds, four assists and two steals while playing in 37 minutes on "Senior Night." Fellow senior Dan Borys (Crown Point, IN) added 16 points while Kyle Tipton and Darrius Nelson (Michigan City, IN) chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively in the losing effort.

The Raiders, paced by Bennett's 23, received 14 points from sophomore Austin Meier on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. As a team the Raiders shot over 55 percent from the field (27-49) and converted on nine of 11 trips to the free throw line.

The Stars will close out the 2008-2009 season on Saturday as they host the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders. The game time is to be determined pending the outcome of Wednesday night's women's game against Wisconsin Lutheran College.
