February 28, 2007 River Forest, Ill. - Dominican University junior Mike Haiduc (Chicago, IL) was named to the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) All-Conference Team released to the public on Tuesday following the conclusion of the NAC Men's Basketball Tournament. Haiduc, a 6'7" forward for the Stars, paced the team's offense, averaging 15.7 points per game on the season and 16.4 points per game in NAC play. In the Stars' final game of the season, Haiduc became just the 14th player in the history of the Dominican University men's basketball program to score 1,000 career points. Appearing in 25 of the team's 27 games this season, Haiduc scored in double figures in all but three of the games he played and led the team in scoring a team-high 11 times. Nationally, Haiduc ranked in the top 30 in the nation among NCAA Division III men's basketball players in blocked shots, averaging 2.0 blocks per game, and in the top 60 in the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 57.6 percent from the field. Haiduc's teammate, junior transfer Jose Garcia (Kenosha, WI), received NAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. The 6'2" guard averaged 14.9 points per game in conference play and was consistently one of the conference's top three-point shooters, connecting on 49 of his 103 three-point field goal attempts. Garcia led the Stars in scoring 10 times, including in eight conference regular season games. Against Aurora University and Edgewood College, the top two teams in the NAC, Garcia averaged 16.2 points and logged a team-high 34.2 minutes per game. Together, Haiduc and Garcia helped Dominican University to the one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program as the Stars posted the most wins, 17, in a season since the 1992-1993 season when the Rosary College Rebels posted a 19-15 mark, competing in the NAIA Division I. On the year, the Stars boast a 17-10 overall record and a 12-6 record in the NAC. |
