River Forest, Ill. - In the latest edition of Around the Nation on D3Hoops.com, the Dominican University men's basketball team was dubbed a "Super Sleeper" for the 2007-2008 NCAA Division III basketball season. The Stars, picked to finish third in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Preseason Coaches Poll, caught the attention of the website editors with their upward progression since the return of Head Coach Mark White in 2002. White's Stars have improved from four wins in 2003-2004 to seven wins in 2004-2005 to 13 wins in 2005-2006 before enjoying the most successful season of the program since 1991-1992 as the Stars posted a 17-10 overall mark last season. The key to the Stars success will be the experience of their 11 returning letterwinners and four returning starters from the 2006-2007 season. The Stars' experienced squad is led by 6'8" forward Mike Haiduc (Chicago, IL). Haiduc, a career 1,000-point scorer, averaged 15.7 points per game and 6.8 rebounds while logging a team-best 29.9 minutes per contest. Dominican opens regular season play on Friday night as they host Lawrence University of the Midwest Conference (MCW) at 8:00 p.m. The Vikings, picked second in the MWC preseason coaches' poll, finished the 2006-2007 season with a 13-10 mark and return four starters including Ryan Kroeger, a Second Team All-MWC selection, who averaged 16.1 points per game last season while shooting over 43 percent from behind the three-point stripe. |
