Erick Baumann ranks in the top ten amongst active Division III Men's Soccer coaches with a .784 career winning percentage in 14 seasons as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Dominican University. Baumann took over the reins of the program at Dominican University in 1995 following a season in which the Stars posted a 5-15-0 mark. That season was the program's final sub .500 season as under Baumann the Stars have averaged over 16 wins a year posting 20 or more wins three times, including a program-high mark of 21 wins in 1999.

Last season the Stars continued to roll under Baumann, posting an 18-2-1 overall record to earn the program's seventh consecutive bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships. Along the way, Baumann's crew captured the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) regular season and conference tournament championships for the third straight season, posting a perfect 11-0-0 record in regular season NAC play.

In fact, since joining the NCAA in 2000, Baumann's Stars have posted a 60-1-1 mark as members of the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC), Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) and Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) and have not lost a regular season conference match since the 2004 season. Baumann has guided the Stars to a 29-0-1 mark in the NAC in which the Stars have competed in since 2006, winning back-to-back-to-back regular season and conference tournament championships. Five Stars have received All-America honors playing under Baumann. Erik Elizondo and David Niederholtmeyer were first-team selections in 2004 and 2005 respectively; Oscar Alvarez was named to the second team in 1997 and the third team in 1999; Carlos Carrillo and Matt Kochanowski were both third team selections in 1999 and 2007 respectively.

Baumann has been recognized with nine conference Coach of the Year awards, including in 1999 when he was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Coach of the Year. That season, Baumann was featured in Sports Illustrated as the NAIA Region VII Coach of the Year as he led the team to the university's first-ever regional championship in men's soccer and the program's first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.

Baumann enters the 2009 campaign as the program's all-time leader in wins (236) and winning percentage (.784) with a career coaching record of 236-60-16. He has more coaching victories than any other coach (all sports included) in the history of the university. In 2003, Baumann's Stars reached the 20-win mark for just the second time in program history, posting a final mark of 20-3-1 and making a run to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships quarterfinal for the first time in school history. Three years later in 2006, the Stars posted a 20-2-2 overall record making their second appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals.

Baumann is a 1993 graduate of Dominican and was a four-time team captain for the men's soccer program from 1990-1993 earning team MVP honors and a spot on the District 20 All-District Team in 1993.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Baumann is also the director of athletics at the university and has served in that role since the 2006-2007 academic year, seeing the department through the most successful season in the last decade as the department winning percentage climbed to a ten-year high for the second consecutive year during the 2008-2009 academic year.
