Whitewater, Wis. - The Dominican University Stars advanced to the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship with a 1-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks in Whitewater, Wis. on Saturday. The Stars will face the Washington University (Mo.) Bears in the second round on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Whitewater. With the game tied at 0-0 into the 88th minute, the Stars' Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) scored the game-winning goal to propel the Stars past the regional host Warhawks. Junior goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL) assisted on the goal as he punted a ball over the Warhawks' defense that Kochanowski chased down inside the Whitewater box and then beat the goalkeeper for the lone score of the game. The goal was Kochanowski's 13th goal of the season and 55th of his career. The Stars (17-3-1) will matchup with the Washington University Bears (14-4-2) in the second round, as the Bears knocked off Carthage College 2-1 in the second game of the Whitewater Regional. |
