River Forest, Ill. - Dominican University's Elvin Perez (Chicago, IL), a 5'11" senior defender, was selected to the ESPN the Magazine District V Academic All-District Second Team. To be considered for the honor, Perez, a Business Administration and Finance major with a minor in Accounting, was required to maintain a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average throughout his academic career at Dominican while competing as a four-year starter on the Stars' men's soccer program. On the soccer field, Perez has been a staple on the Stars' defense since the 2004 season, with the Stars making three NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances and looking for their fourth this season. He has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region Team two times, receiving First Team Honors in 2006 and Second Team Honors in 2005. In addition, the graduate of Walter Payton High School has been named to three all-conference first teams, Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (2004), Lake Michigan Conference (2005) and Northern Athletics Conference (2006). Throughout his career, Perez has appeared in 83 games and started 78 games. He has logged six goals and six assists for a total of 18 points. This season he has scored a pair of goals, both game-winning goals in conference action. More importantly, Perez has been a key contributor to the Stars defense that has ranked among the best in the nation annually. Over the last four seasons, the Stars' defense boasts a 0.59 goals against average and has improved that statistic every season from 0.82 in 2004 to 0.47 to date this season, ranking 13th in the nation among Division III men's soccer programs. Perez and the Stars continue their quest for their sixth consecutive at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament on Saturday as they host Aurora University in the NAC Tournament Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Dominican's West Campus Field. |
