River Forest, IL - The Dominican University men's tennis team opened the 2009 season with a pair of dual matches in Waverly, Iowa, on Saturday. In the opening match, the Stars were blanked by the Wartburg College Knights 9-0 and then dropped their second match of the day to Simpson College 7-2 on the neutral court. Junior Zlatan Hodzic (Chicago, IL), the Stars' number one singles competitor, picked up the lone singles victory for the Stars besting Simpson's Chris Riesselman 6-2, 6-4. Hodzic combined with senior Frank Napolitano (Elmhurst, IL) at number one doubles helped the Stars to earn their only other point of the day as they upended Riesselman and Ben Lampman from Simpson 8-3 in doubles play. The singles win improved Hodzic's career singles record to 15-11 and was his first career win at the number one singles flight. The Stars will not return to action until March 22, when they host University of Dubuque for an 11:00 a.m. match at Taylor Park, the Stars' home facility. |
