River Forest, IL - The Dominican University women's basketball team fell 74-70 in overtime to host Alverno College in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action on Tuesday night despite 48 points from guards Angel Betts (Pontiac, IL) and Lindsey Trent (Frankfort, IN). The Stars had built up a six-point lead with just 1:13 remaining in regulation, but Alverno closed out the half on an 8-2 run to knot the game at 61-61. The Stars then jumped out to a four-point lead in the opening minutes of the overtime period, but Alverno then embarked on a 10-3 run to take the lead for good. Betts and Trent shared game-high honors with 24 points apiece while forwards Jessica Salinas (Bolingbrook, IL) and Megan Molloy (Chicago, IL) managed just nine and eight points respectively on a combined 4-for-17 shooting from the field. The win drops the Stars to 11-10 overall and 6-9 in the NAC. Dominican will look to rebound on Thursday as they travel to Concordia University Chicago to take on the neighborhood and conference rival Cougars. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. |
