River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's basketball squad picked up its first win of the season with a 77-52 win over the visiting Moody Bible Institute Archers. Sophomore Jessica Salinas (Bolingbrook, IL) poured in a game-high 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field. Salinas was also a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line and grabbed eight rebounds in the winning effort. Senior Wioleta Koziol (Mt. Prospect, IL) and sophomore Angel Betts (Pontiac, IL) chipped in 11 points apiece while junior guard Lindsey Trent (Frankfort, IN) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. As a team, the Stars turned the ball over a season-low 18 times, nearly eight fewer turnovers than their season average of 25.9 turnovers per game. Dominican also converted on 32 of 77 field goal attempts and while grabbing a season-high 56 rebounds, including 17 offensive rebounds that led to 13 second chance points. The Stars then traveled to Wisconsin Lutheran College in search of their first Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) win on Saturday, but came up short in their quest falling to the WLC Warriors 80-68. Salinas again paced the Stars with 31 points, converting on 14 of her 14 field goal attempts and tying the NCAA record for field goal percentage in a game. Salinas converted on all six of her first half attempts from the field and then converted on all eight of her second half attempts, scoring her final bucket with 2:28 remaining in the game. The Stars now stand at 1-7 on the season and are 0-3 in the NAC. They return to NAC action on Tuesday as they host Aurora University for a 7:00 p.m. in tipoff in the Dominican's Igini Sports Forum. |
