River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's basketball team opened the 2007-2008 season at the Manchester Bankers' Tip-off Tournament hosted by Manchester College, falling to Kalamazoo College 83-81 in overtime in the opening round. The Stars then fell to the host Manchester College 106-73 in the tournament's consolation contest. In the Stars' loss to Kalamazoo, senior Wioleta Koziol (Mt. Prospect, IL) poured in a career-high 26 points to lead the Stars' on the offensive end of the floor. Koziol went 10-for-17 from the field, including 1-for-2 from three, and 5-for-8 eight from the foul line. Koziol added eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in 39 minutes of work in the losing effort. Along with Koziol, sophomore Jessica Salinas (Bolingbrook, IL) and junior Lindsey Trent (Frankfort, IN) each reached double-figures for Dominican. Salinas, a 400-point scorer as a freshman, scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, five offensive, while Trent logged a double-double effort in her first game in a Dominican uniform, scoring 24 points and bringing down 10 rebounds. On Saturday, in the Stars' loss to Manchester, Salinas paced four Dominican players in double figures with 16 points on -7-for-13 shooting from the field. Fellow sophomore Lisa Julkowski (Chicago, IL) chipped in 13 points and freshman Megan Molloy (Chicago, IL) added 12 as the Stars shot over 47 percent from the field but logged 23 turnovers in the game. Dominican returns home for the 2007-2008 home opener on Tuesday, as they host Loras College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Dominican's Igini Sports Forum. |
