River Forest, Ill. - Coming off one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program after posting a 12-5-2 record in 2006, the Dominican University women's soccer team dropped back-to-back games in Minnesota to open the season. On Saturday, the Stars dropped a heart-breaker 3-2 in double-overtime, surrendering the game-winning goal in 106th minute of play. The Stars trailed 2-0 for most of the game, surrendering a pair of first half goals. However, sophomore Anna Rudel (Chicago, IL) scored a pair of unassisted goals in the final ten minutes of regulation to knot the score at 2-2. The Stars were out-shot 20-15 on the day while corner kicks were even at four apiece. Dominican University sophomore goalkeeper, Jacqui Lani (Green Bay, WI) recorded nine saves in the game. The Stars then fell to Bethel University 6-1 on Monday. The Stars' Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL) logged Dominican's lone score of the day in the 33rd minute to pull the Stars to within two at 3-1. However, Bethel scored the final three goals of the game en route to the victory. Behel held a 20-11 advantage in shots and 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Stars will travel to Principia College on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. game. |
