Mark Anderson starts his second season as an assistant softball coach with the Dominican University Stars for the 2009 season. He works with the outfielders and coaches first base as well as playing an integral role in the recruitment of players. Anderson brings a plethora of coaching experience to Dominican, including a 23-year stint at Bloom Township High School from 1983-2006 where he coached softball, girls' basketball and football. During his tenure at Bloom, he was the Head Varsity Softball Coach from 1986-2006 during which time he had 107 athletes recognized with all-conference awards, 95 athletes with all-area awards and 38 players received college scholarships. His 1993 team was the SICA East Co-Conference Champions. Anderson is the Bloom Township all-time winningest softball coach with 314 career wins and was inducted into the Illinois Coaches' Association Softball Hall of Fame in 2009. Anderson has served as an NFCA State Representative in 1997 as well as the Illinois Girls' Coaching Association President from 1995 through 1998. At the club level, Anderson has coached with the ASA summer traveling softball teams the Chicago Heights Hurricanes and Bloom Township from 1991-2005 and was named the Softball Coach of the Year in 1993. In addition to his coaching experience, Anderson is a graduate of Thornton Community College where he lettered in football two years. Anderson went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University and received a master's degree in Education from Chicago State University. Anderson has been a physical education and special education teacher in school district #170 in Chicago Heights for 25-plus years. Anderson resides in the south suburbs of Chicago, Ill., with his wife Kristine and their two children Summer and Brady. |
