River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's volleyball team raced out to a two-set lead in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament championship match before falling to back-to-back defending champions, the Lakeland College Muskies, in five sets (25-27, 24-26, 25-19, 25-14, 15-10) on Saturday night.

Dominican's Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.) led three Stars in double-digit kills with a match-high 16 kills on 65 total attacks. Lawrence, a freshman, totaled 18 points in the losing effort, coupling a service ace and a pair of block assists with her 16 kills.

For the Muskies, seniors Kaylyn Kasper and Kim Linger shared team-high honors with 15.5 total points. Kasper and Linger each tallied 14 kills. Kasper added a solo block and a block assist while Linger contributed a service ace and a block assist. Fellow senior and 2007 NAC Player of Year, Brittanie Paulus chipped in 12 kills, two aces and solo block in the winning effort.

The loss closed out the Stars' 2009 campaign with a 21-13 overall record while the win improved Lakeland to 23-12 on the year and catapulted the Muskies to their third straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships.
