River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's volleyball program snapped a 31-match losing streak dating back to November 3, 2005 with a win over Oglethorpe University 3-1 (31-29, 30-20, 30-32, 30-26) at the 2007 Oglethorpe Classic on Sunday, September 2. Freshmen Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, IL) and Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) paced the Stars' offense with 12 kills and 10 kills respectively while sophomore Anka Niemczewska (Vernon Hills, IL) logged 28 assists. Kammeier, Kiepura and Niemczewska each rounded out their performance with double-digit digs with Niemczewska racking up 23 digs. The Stars posted a 1-3 record at the Oglethorpe Classic to open the season for Dominican University. The Stars lost in the season opener to Huntingdon College 3-0 (30-28, 30-228, 31-29) and then fell to Piedmont College 3-0 (30-20, 30-25, 30-25). On Day Two of the tournament, Dominican logged the win over host Oglethorpe in the morning but then fell 3-2 (30-25, 30-19, 26-30, 17-30, 15-9) to Howard Payne University. The Stars will travel to Rose-Hulman Institute for a tournament next weekend. On Friday, they will play Earlham College and Rose-Hulman. On Saturday, the Stars will wrap up the two-day tournament with MacMurray College and Lewis & Clark University. |
