River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's volleyball team split a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) matches last weekend knocking off Aurora University 3-1 on the road but then falling to Benedictine University 3-1 at home. In the match with Aurora last Friday night, the Stars took games one and two of the match 30-27 and 30-25 before dropping game three 30-21. The Stars then regrouped to win game four and the ultimately the match 30-27. Freshman Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) posted a game-high 24 kills on 62 total attacks logging a .210 hitting percentage and had five service aces. Fellow freshmen Michael Ann Kelly (Dwight, IL) and Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, IL) each added ten kills while sophomore Anka Niemczewska tolled out 39 assists in the winning effort for the Stars. Defensively, sophomore libero Megan Moore logged a game-high 33 digs while Kammeier, Kelly, Lindsey Cochran (Bradley, IL) and Niemczewska all posted double-digit digs as the Stars logged 103 digs as a team in the four-game match. In addition, Dominican recorded 13 total blocks with Kiepura and freshman Ashley Gans (Park Forest, IL) recording two solo blocks apiece. Kiepura also added four block assists for a total of six blocks in the match. The Stars rode their emotional high of knocking off Aurora into Saturday and stunned the Benedictine University Eagles in game one of their match 32-30. However, the Stars would then drop the next three 30-22, 30-28 and 30-25 to fall to the NAC's third place Eagles. Kammeier continued her outstanding freshman campaign, posting a game-high 28 kills on 71 total attacks with seven service aces and 16 digs while Niemczewska logged 45 assists with 18 digs. The Stars will play at Rockford College, currently in eighth place in the NAC, on Wednesday. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. |
