Lisle, Ill. - The Dominican University women's cross country team has battled injuries throughout the 2009 season, finally returning the 2008 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Individual Champion on Friday at Benedictine University for her first race since September 4. Megan Vaccaro (Oswego, Ill.), the Stars top performer at the NAC Championship in each of the last three seasons, returned from a nagging injury to post a time of 24:41.84 over the six-kilometer course at Benedictine University. Vaccaro was the Stars' top-performer on the day, pacing the Stars to an eighth place finish at the Eagle Invite. Fellow senior Jeanine Bentley (Downers Grove, Ill.) followed shortly behind, covering the course in a time of 24:46.23 for a 23rd place individual finish. Erika Espinosa (Wheeling, Ill.), Katie Kacic (Lisle, Ill.) and Andrea Rohrbacher (Naperville, Ill.) rounded out Dominican's top-five finishers placing 77th through 84th individually and all turning in times in the 7:20 mile range. In the men's race, senior Robert Koors (St. Louis, Mo.) paced the Stars to a 15th place team finish, covering the 8K course in a personal-best 29:01.71 seconds, shaving over thirty seconds off his previous top time. Senior Aubrey Denard (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman Alex Rivera (Chicago, Ill.) also ran personal record times, posting times of 36:42.18 and 31:46.14 respectively. The Stars next meet is slated for Saturday, October 17, at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. |
